Fletcher’s winter camping wish list

Fletcher already has a pack and a camping food and water bowl, but here’s his winter camping wish list:

Pooches claws get worn down and often break when he’s running on the rocky trail. The Ruff Wear Bark’n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots would fix that!

Having a layer between you and the ground when sleeping is a must for staying warm. The Highlands Bed is a great option for Fletcher. The best part is that it comes with a stuff sack so it packs down and can fit in the pooch’s pack.

The Quinzee Insulated Dog Jacket would help Fletcher stay extra warm at night. He was shivering during our last camping trip. We tucked him into bed with a down jacket but it would be nice if he had his own jacket.

The Beacon Safety Light lets us know where Fletcher is at all times.

We love Ruff Wear products!

a walk in the woods

Last weekend, we took Fletcher on his first camping overnighter on the Appalachian Trail. He loved it. He put it in four-paw drive and had no trouble getting over the rocks on the trail. He wore his new pack and carried all of his own supplies. I love seeing him run around the woods because he’s so happy and excited.

But the evening took a turn for the worse when we heard rustling and turned around from the campfire to find Fletcher tangled in our friends tent. He must have run too close to it and panicked when he got tangled. By the time we got to him, the tent was damaged. I know it was an accident, but it’s still my responsibility to replace my friend’s tent. I’m sending it back to the company to see if it can be fixed, if it can’t, I’ll need to replace it. We learned an expensive lesson that weekend—remember to pack Fletcher’s lead.

My sister sent me this! LOL.

update: Basement Cat

I took Basement Cat to the vet on Friday to see how she was doing on her new food to manage her hyperthyroidism. I have to admit she had me a little worried. Basement Cat is usually a mega-bitch at the vet and she was actually relaxed (at first). She let the vet tech lift her onto the scale with minimal grumbling, and while we waited for the doctor, she relaxed on a chair; unheard of considering the amount of dogs that were barking in the hallway (they were running a vaccine clinic that day). The last time she was this relaxed, she was very sick and I thought I was going to have to put her to sleep. But, alas, my worrying was unnecessary because as soon as they tried to pick her up for the exam her true hatred of the vet showed.

Anyway, the doctor called with her thyroid numbers today and it seems like the new food is working! She didn’t drop any weight and her thyroid numbers are right where they should be! She’ll go back in 6 - 12 months to get her numbers rechecked.

But now, I need to save money to have one of her teeth removed. When she found me a couple of years ago, she had a broken front tooth. At the time, it wasn’t a concern but the vet told me I’d have to have it removed if it started bothering her. Well, now it’s bothering her and she’s healthy enough for the procedure. I’m hoping to schedule it before the end of January.

Here she is relaxing at the vet…
